Devlog 09: The finish line!
Intro
Our game is finished!? Production on Lance-A-Lot is coming to an end. This last week of the sprint really brought everything nicely together. The features and assets are all there to enjoy. Coming up is one more week of polishing what is already there and after that the game jame wraps up. We are really proud of what we made and hope that whoever decides to play our game also finds some joy in it.
Art
Central in the arena we now have the Roller. A historically accurate medieval weapon of warfare used to squish goblins and rolling out dough.
This will be the menu screen for our game. A prequel to the actual game itself as the princess is not fully convinced yet by our red heroes advances. A tragic tale truly, but once you win the tournament, we are sure you will steal her heart!
The scene this last week really came together well, all assets are there, fully textured. No more grey blockouts! We almost forgot to add foliage but luckily we didn't as it really ties everything nicely together.
Sometimes you get hit one too many times and its looking like a stalemate. Then you just want to shout some things which make the crowd gasp in shock. But you can't help it as the rage gives you power! All that to say: here is a peak at the spritesheet for our rage particle system.
Wind can turn the battle around and in previous builts we tried to keep it realistic and have the wind not be visible at all! (or maybe it took a while to create particle assets but who knows) Now the player can actually see the wind they are fighting against or taking advantage off.
Programming
Hazards
a new and improved model for the spinning roller was made by our artists that required a little more code to function correctly but is now fully working to make the arena more dynamic and fun to play in :)
RFX
almost all of the RFX that has been created throughout the week has been implemented making the fights look even more intense and chaotic !
Dash
Our dash mechanic has been having some bugs throughout weeks that we have now (hopefully) solved by reworking the feature, functionality wise it's still the fun and dynamic feature it used to be but should feel better now!
Sound
Nearly all sound effects are now included in the game. The only things that's left now is to finalize the mix and include the final remaining sounds. For those curious the final sound needed included a big winged creature.
UI
All the new UI elements and their functionality has been added. A pause menu was created too BUT it gave a load of bugs so for the time being it is not in the game yet. Although it probably will be in the end.
Bugs
This week was a lot of bug fixing, different errors came out when trying to build our game. Everything worked perfectly in dev but became unplayable once built. Now almost everything works perfect, yes, almost everything.
